Davison’s Camp is a reasonably priced tented safari camp in a remote part of Hwange National Park’s premier wildlife concession, offering a top-quality safari experience.
Davison’s Camp offers a luxurious yet affordable safari experience nestled in a vast private concession within southern Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe. Known for its great value, it provides an incredible chance to enjoy top-notch wildlife viewing without the higher price tags of some other luxury camps. Whether you arrive by private charter, road, or self-drive, you’ll find cosy luxury tents and a welcoming atmosphere. Managed by Wilderness, the camp maintains high standards in guiding, accommodation, and cuisine. Surrounded by beautiful false Mopane trees and overlooking a waterhole and plain, it’s part of a prime wildlife area shared with others like Little Makalolo and Linkwasha, but at a more accessible price. Perfect for travellers who want a memorable safari adventure with a focus on quality and authenticity, Davison’s Camp is a remarkable choice for exploring Hwange’s incredible wildlife and landscapes.

Davison’s Camp
Introduction
Nestled in a lovely grove of majestic false mopane trees in southeastern Hwange National Park, Davison's Camp offers a cosy and inviting atmosphere. The camp overlooks a lively waterhole that attracts a steady flow of buffalo, elephants, and a variety of plains game throughout the year, along with their exciting predators, creating an incredible and vibrant wildlife experience.
This wonderful private wildlife concession, owned and operated by Wilderness Safaris, is truly one of the top experiences Zimbabwe has to offer. The open African Savannahs offer fantastic opportunities to capture iconic wildlife photos. Wilderness manages three camps within this vast concession, and Davison's stands out as the most affordable among them — part of their adventure range. It’s a great choice not because of a less enjoyable game experience, but because it offers slightly simpler yet still comfortable facilities.
Being tucked away in a remote corner of Hwange National Park, it is easiest to reach by charter flight from Victoria Falls. However, a road transfer (about five hours from Victoria Falls, 2.5 hours through Hwange) is also available.
Enjoy eight en-suite tents and a cosy family unit, all offering stunning views of the waterhole. While they’re not overly luxurious, they’re definitely more than comfortable, each with its own patio — a perfect spot to unwind and watch the fascinating wildlife and birds that surround you. The main lounge and dining area exude classic safari charm with comfy couches and African-inspired decor. It’s an ideal place to relax during siesta hours while keeping an eye on the waterhole; plus, there's a fantastic upper viewing deck with elevated, uninterrupted views. The pool at Davison's Camp is a refreshing retreat during the hot summer months. In the evenings, you can gather around the inviting fire pit on the open deck to share stories about the day's incredible sightings.
The activities provided here are mainly held on the Wilderness Private Concession. Embark on exciting game drives, adventurous night drives, guided walks, and enjoy a visit to the local village—they'll fill your day with fun and memorable moments. Travelling from one waterhole to another on game drives can be incredibly rewarding, especially since this area is famous for its large herds of elephants. The abundance of plains game and predators makes it one of the top spots for game viewing in Zimbabwe, and definitely in Hwange. Walking with a professional guide offers a unique perspective, allowing you to notice the smaller, fascinating details of this park. Plus, the village tour provides wonderful insights into the lives of the local community and the meaningful work Wilderness Safaris does to support them.
Here's what the Travel Agency considers.
Davison's Camp is truly one of their favourite spots in Hwange, offering great value on a top-quality wildlife concession. Every visit leaves me amazed by the variety and abundance of wildlife—it's really hard to beat. The tents at Davison's are a bit smaller and less luxurious than those at the other two wilderness camps in the area, which is reflected in the lower price. If you're looking for an authentic safari adventure without the extra frills, this camp is just perfect for you.
Great SADC rates truly make this an excellent choice for our regional and local clients. Wilderness guides are consistently of a very high standard, as is the food and accommodation. Since it's a private concession, off-road driving is allowed, and you'll only see vehicles from the Wilderness camps—two huge advantages, in my opinion. Wilderness Camps in Mana Pools, Hwange, and Victoria Falls offer fantastic packages in some of the most beautiful locations. Feel free to contact us for more details!

The seasons in Hwange greatly affect your wallet and Safari experience.
During the Green season, also known as the rainy season, you'll enjoy witnessing an amazing variety of bird and insect life. While animal sightings might be a bit less frequent, you'll find that lodge prices are often significantly lowered, making it a fantastic opportunity to experience the beauty of nature without breaking the bank.
During the high season, which is the dry season, you'll often see animals gathering in large numbers around waterholes, creating breathtaking scenes reminiscent of National Geographic. This busy time is when lodge prices tend to rise quite a bit, reflecting the vibrant and lively atmosphere. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience nature at its most bustling and beautiful!
Please get in touch with us with your preferences, and we'll discuss the best time of year for you.
