Camp Silwane
Introduction
Camp Silwane is a charming and relatively new safari camp nestled in a beautiful, remote conservation area close to the border of Hwange National Park.
This area, known as the Silwane Conservation Area, has a rich history—it was once hunting land, but today it’s a carefully protected space perfect for photography safaris and for enjoying nature’s wonders.
The camp's name is inspired by the Ndebele word for "lion," which is isilwane. This feels very fitting because guests often get to enjoy the majestic roar of a male lion during their visit.
The Silwane area is truly special, featuring three permanent waterholes that are always alive with wildlife, along with seasonal pans that add to its vibrant, welcoming atmosphere.
Camp Silwane is a wonderful choice for budget travellers, offering a variety of cosy accommodations, from self-catering camping to full-board tents.
Owned and lovingly operated by a Zimbabwean family, they are genuinely passionate about sharing the stunning beauty of Hwange with their guests.
Nestled in a peaceful, remote spot away from busy crowds, the camp provides a truly authentic wilderness adventure.
Silwane Tented Camp warmly welcomes you to its main site, featuring seven beautifully spacious en-suite tents. Four of these are cosy canvas tents set on sturdy concrete foundations, while three are charming tents on raised teak decking beneath a lovely thatch roof.
Each tent is thoughtfully designed to be comfortable and inviting, complete with private bathrooms, solar-powered electricity, and mosquito nets to ensure a restful stay.
Whether you prefer fully catered meals or wish to prepare your own, you'll find options that suit your needs. Self-catered guests can enjoy the shared kitchen and dining area, making your experience both flexible and enjoyable.
The newer Somadada Platform offers a unique and cosy sleeping experience under the stars beside a peaceful waterhole. Guests can relax on a comfortable bed beneath a mosquito net, set on a lovely teak platform.
It’s managed by Silwane Tented Camp, where visitors can enjoy delicious meals and refreshing sundowners on the raised teak dining area overlooking the waterhole.
If you prefer, you can also bring your own bedding and self-cater using the braai stand available on the platform. A friendly camp hand will be there to assist you whenever needed.
For the enthusiastic and brave explorers, the Acacia Grove Campsite welcomes you with seven charming campsites, each offering a beautiful view of the wild wilderness and the nearby waterhole.
You'll find three shared ablution facilities, all equipped with flush toilets, running water, and handy pulley showers. Plus, the cosy thatched gazebo provides perfect shelter for rainy days or during the hot months, making your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Enjoy game drives on the Silwane concession when you stay at Silwane Tented Camp with full catering. You can also experience exciting night drives, walking safaris, and birdwatching right on the concession. Additionally, feel free to arrange game drives in Hwange National Park for even more adventure.
Camp Silwane isn't fenced, and neither is Hwange National Park. Wildlife freely roam between these conservation areas, including through the safari camp. Remember to stay safe, and always keep children with you.
Here's what the Travel Agency considers.
They really appreciate that Camp Silwane is budget-friendly and offers something for everyone, from camping to cosy tented rooms.
It’s wonderful that you can enjoy the Hwange wildlife experience without needing to go into the national park or pay park entry fees.
