Chobe Game Lodge
The only permanent lodge is located right inside the beautiful Chobe National Park.
Introduction
As the only permanent lodge nestled inside Botswana's Chobe National Park, Chobe Game Lodge offers a truly special experience compared to other lodges outside the park. While most lodges are clustered in the town of Kasane, this one stands alone, surrounded by the beautiful wilderness of the national park. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the Chobe River and its floodplains, which are renowned for their vibrant wildlife and birdlife, creating an unforgettable natural setting.
This luxurious lodge truly offers a special experience. Here, you'll enjoy a truly relaxing experience from beginning to end, delightful cuisine to savour, restful comfort at night, and the chance to go on the safari adventure you've always dreamed of. Its reputation is well deserved; it likely gained fame when Liz Taylor and Richard Burton celebrated their remarriage here in the 1970s. The charming Moorish architecture and peaceful, lush gardens at Chobe Game Lodge add to its wonderful, inviting atmosphere.
This spacious lodge welcomes up to 94 guests across 47 comfortable bedrooms. While the staff are wonderfully hospitable, friendly, and accommodating, the experience is a bit different from that of an exclusive 20-bed safari camp with a more intimate atmosphere. However, for many guests, the comfort and luxury of a larger, well-established hotel are exactly what they prefer.
Since Chobe Game Lodge is beautifully located right on the river, it offers a wonderful mix of land and water activities. You can enjoy morning and afternoon safaris, as well as relaxing river cruises, all included in the price. Being inside the park means you'll have more opportunities to see wildlife than at lodges outside the park, making your experience even more special.
Chobe National Park is celebrated for its incredible elephant population, making it a special place to visit in Africa. During the dry season (July to October), you can witness these magnificent herds of elephants gathering, along with large groups of buffalo, along the lush flood plains of the Chobe River, which provide the only water and grazing in the area. It's also quite common to see giraffes, sable, roan antelope, painted dogs, lions, red lechwe, and puku, among many other incredible wildlife sights.
During the green season (Dec to April), you'll notice much of the game disperses inland, as nature helps the floodplains to recover and rejuvenate. While resident game is always around, it’s not as concentrated as during the dry season. One of the highlights of the green season is witnessing hundreds of newborn plains game and an abundance of plant life, making it a truly lively and vibrant time to experience nature.
Accommodation prices at Chobe Game Lodge vary throughout the year, depending on the season and peak tourism periods. During the green season, rates are half those of the peak season, making it a great time to visit!
Here's what the Travel Agency considers.
Some TripAdvisor reviews praise the game guides, while others feel they are lacking. One common opinion is that Chobe Game Lodge is "a hotel in a game park." It is indeed one of the top game parks in Africa, teeming with wildlife, especially during the dry season, so the game viewing really speaks for itself. However, they believe that guiding here may not quite match the standards of a smaller, more exclusive safari camp, which can offer a more intense and immersive wildlife experience.
One great benefit of Chobe Game Lodge is that it’s the only accommodation located inside the park. This means that in the mornings, guests at the lodge get a head start over other vehicles entering the park from outside the park. It also offers the opportunity to enjoy longer game-viewing sessions in the evenings, when wildlife viewing is especially spectacular. Chobe Game Lodge is perfect for guests willing to spend a bit more to enjoy the luxury and amenities of a hotel, offering a more comfortable experience than smaller bush camps.
